This is for you if you’re wanting to get started with dance classes, and you want to come along with your partner but they’re just not keen, and they really need some convincing.
We thought we’d put together a few little tips that would help you to convince your partner to join you on the dance floor!
My name’s Jada from Rio Rhythmics Latin dance Academy, improving lives through Latin dance, culture and community.
So, my first tip is to tell your partner how it would make you feel if you did Latin dancing together. Not just how you would feel if you did Latin dancing but how it would make you feel if you were able to share that experience with your partner. Why it would be more special. Why it is that you want to share that time with your partner. And how it would make you feel.
This is a really important one. Whenever we’re asking our partner to do something maybe that they don’t want to do, that they’re resiting a little bit, but it’s really important to us. We need to have a look at why it’s so important to us and explain that to them, because sometimes they’re just thinking about themselves, or they don’t want to make a fool of themselves on the dance floor or they think that you know, dancing’s not for them or they won’t be able to do it. Or that maybe you’re going to be better than them.
So what you need to do is actually think about how it’s going to make you feel if you’re able to do the dance class with your partner and let them know.
Start off by going off by going through all of the benefits they will personally get by going to dance classes. Things like improved coordination, more confident with their rhythm, being able to expand their social network, getting active on a weekly basis and spending quality time with you.
Then you can talk about the benefits they’ll get from spending that time with you. So it’s an amazing way to spend good quality couple time, you can even extend it into a date night bye heading out to dinner before or after your dance class.
Making it a weekly routine to spend that quality time with each other doing something enjoyable.
Let them know that they’re not going to be alone as a complete beginner in the dance class. Most people who join our starter courses have never ever, ever danced before, they have not done any kind of dancing as a child, or at least not since childhood.
So you’re not going to be alone when you come along as a complete beginner to the classes. There are hundreds of men and hundreds of women who start out as complete beginners so you’re not going to be alone.
As one of our students eloquently put it. “Where learning to dance might seem daunting or even impossible, it’s as little as one hour in your week with an untapped outlet to cultivate a new skill that is also active and social. And, it counts towards brownie points with your partner if they like dancing too”.
You could also put it like this. It’s going to be killing two birds with one stone. They’re going to make you really happy and they’re going to do something that’s going to improve their life whether they know it yet or not!
We would love to welcome you, and your partner onto the dance floor very soon. Remember you can always come along on your own and get them dancing later on.
Please leave a comment below to let us know what you think, how you went, and if you gave this a go.
We look forward to seeing you very soon!
