It may be surprising, or it may make complete sense to you, the number one reason people start social Latin dance with us is for FUN. Yep, though there are other things like “to meet new people”, “adventure”, “central location”, “my friend recommended it” coming up high on the list we can without a doubt say that the word FUN comes up the most as a starting reason.

It got us to thinking, is it because fun is what is expected when people think of Latin dance or is it because more fun is lacking from the day to day of our lives and we are searching for more of it? Is it because we try to compartmentalise our lives into work, family, play, relaxation, social etc and it would seem fun can only be a part of some of those areas, often the ones we spend least time doing?

There are many studies and discussions towards an integration rather than a balance being optimal for wellbeing. So more people are searching for activities which combine socializing, fun, physical activity, brain stimulation, things that help them be more in the present. Plus more and more people are looking to design their life so they are working with what they love AND have more time with family, friends and for themselves. “Do what you love, love what you do”, is a big catch cry moving away from doing what you think your parents wanted you to do, what you thought was the safe option and creating your own vision of your life.

A lot of this freedom is created by technology, and while it does create freedoms it can also create isolation. So in a world becoming more and more technological more and more people are searching for ways to have social contact, be a part of vibrant communities, experience healthy physical connection with others and bring more fun and joy into their lives overall.

Often people start looking for fun, and they are surprised to find ALL of the above in once place and through one activity, social Latin dance.

The level at which you experience all of these things will depend on with whom and where you dance so we suggest you look for somewhere you feel welcome, supported, included, a place which feels like home, has a strong cultural feeling. Sometimes it’s much easier to know how to join in when we are just beginning our dance journeys, Starter courses are an obvious first choice.

But we know that for people with a dance background who have either danced with us in the past or want to jump in to join our courses and community, it can be more challenging to know where to start!

Am I level 2, 3, or 4? Should I go for Salsa & Bachata or Cuban Salsa & Rueda, maybe I should also take a Foundation class to get the underlying essentials …

To help make this as easy as your favourite Basic Step, we now have an INTRO OFFER for experienced dancers. You can buy it and come along at any time in our dance Terms, not just at the start of a Term.

Once you have your Experienced Dancer’s 14 Day Pass you can simply arrive for your chosen classes during that period. As you go our instructors can provide guidance to get you into your ideal courses.

For a taste of the authentic “Samba energia”, right here in Brisbane’s Queen St Mall, secure your place in Rio Rhythmics’ Carnaval Parade. If you don’t just want to watch the parade go by – join us to learn the Carnaval essentials and hire a costume to be part of the action.

Rio Rhythmics has been parading in West End for more than 20 years and this is the first time the event will be held in Brisbane’s iconic Queen St Mall. The parade will commence at Post Office Square and proceed up Queen St Mall to Reddacliffe Place where there will be a Carnaval party with food stalls, demonstrations and live music.

Have fun, get fit, make friends has been a tag line for us for over 20 years and you know what…it just never gets old! But, there is more to it than that.

Today more than ever we re seeking human connection as our jobs get more and more stuck behind a screen. We are seeking a sense of belonging as we live in our separate boxes. We are seeking joy as the world new shows us disaster after disaster. We are seeking wellbeing, both for body & mind to combat sensory overload and too much sitting.

Did you know you can find all that and more dancing Latin dance with us? No?! If you know us, have danced with us, or are dancing with us now that would be a resounding YES we’re hearing.
